Nowhere in the Caribbean is the connection with Africa, deeply as it is in Jamaica. Kingston was the important link in the New World to the barbaric triangular trade that brought slaves from Africa and carried sugar and rum in Europe, and to safeguard the Maroons (runaways who left in the hills of Cockpit Country and Blue Mountains), many of African traditions, and visceral introduced unique cooking spice of Jamaica. Bay St. Ann Marcus Garvey founded the movement back to Africa in 1910 and ’20, the Rastafarianism took a call from a decade later, and reggae provided the pace in the 1960’s and 70’s. No wonder many Jamaicans claim a greater affinity for the African neighbors in the Caribbean islands.

Jamaica Beach

jamaica beachJamaica has several areas with truly spectacular beaches. One of the most important is Ocho Rios, with two of the best beaches in Jamaica, Playa Tortuga (Turtle Beach) and Mallard beach, not forgetting the legendary James Bond Beach, which gets its name because the creator of the legendary character, Ian Fleming, lived there for some time. In turn, it was in this area that they filmed the famous James Bond film, called “Dr. No”, the first of the long series and films offering a stunning Ursula Andress bathing in one of the beaches that can be visited Jamaica in this country.

Also at Ocho Rios, we find the fantastic Dunn’s River Beach, where the river joins the Caribbean Dunn and allowing visitors to walk below the falls that exist in this crossroads of sea and river.

Another famous beach is Negril Jamaica, prominent hippy destination in the 60s and where it is common practice nudism. Meanwhile, in Montego Bay also highlights several beaches such as Cornwall Beach, which offers all kinds of water sports.

The beach of the Bay of Port Antonio, offers perhaps the most famous beach of Jamaica, Blue Lagoon Beach, precisely because there is filmed part of the movie “The Blue Lagoon”, in which Brooke Shields took the spectacular bathrooms topless.

Jamaica land is in fact not only of excellent beaches but some of the beaches filmed by Hollywood cinema. So if international stars and directors have elected Jamaica’s beaches among the best in the world, who will deny that Jamaica is an essential destination to find the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and the world?
